Keeping Up With Your Beauty Cosmetics

Hello Beautiful People,

Great product from Eve Pearl
As we begin or continue with purging the old and bring in the new I felt it was necessary to remind ourselves about the shelf life of some of the things that we use on a daily basis in order to keep us from bacteria, chalky faces and inflamed pores and such. I know what it feels like to certainly buy more than you need and then not get to use it because you have too much and don't use it enough. So as a way to become more cost effective and dare I say frugal (yes the F word!) lets keep in mind how long we should keep our fave beauty makers, how we might be able to preserve them longer and when to let go as well as why.

Mascara- 3 Months
This is not just a number after that amount of time your mascara begins to grow bacteria, if you're a mascara pumper you should stop that just quickens the process, as well as dries it out. Remember this is something you use on your precious and sensitive eyes don't play with your eyes bacterial infections are real.
Facial Moisturizer- 1 year
With normal use no one should have an issue but for those of us who use different moisturizer depending on season or your facial needs changing on texture and need you may have more than one like me. After a year your moisturizer begins to do some weird things such as oxidize, texture changes, and active agents become obsolete. Don't take chances your face is too important to.
Blush/Eye Shadow- 3 years
After that time it will become chalky so you'll know its time
Lipstick- Anywhere from 2-4 years
The jury is out on the exact time but you can be the best judge of time when your lipstick goes bad the texture changes, the color can change, and the smell can be rancid. Know your lipstick.
Foundation- 12-18 months
Lasts about 1 year before it starts to separate on you. Oil based foundations can be stored in the fridge for longer shelf life.
Eye & Lip Pencils- 3 years
Mine don't last long any how but also make sure to sharpen after every use to maintain cleanliness and of course precision.
Sponges- 3 to 6 months
with washing them everyday they start to break down and besides that they can be the biggest harborer of bacteria which causes breakouts and infection.

Tips

  • I wouldn't store products in the bathroom unless you have a great container to keep them in and you don't take steaming showers otherwise relocate.
  •
  • Make sure to sanitize products with alcohol spray or wipes. There are also great products made specifically for this use like Beauty so Clean mist or wipes
  •
  • Please clean your brushes at least twice a month not only will this prevent bacteria, but keep you applying your makeup flawlessly. You can use brush cleanser, or a gentle shampoo most makeup artists swear by Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo
  •
  • Invest in great brushes and you'll only buy them one time. You get what you paid for that saying is so true. Does it have to be MAC? Nope they are some great brushes that won't kill your pockets such as Sedona Lace, Sigma, and my favorite Bdellium Brushes.

Your face and wallet will thank you

Live, laugh, X &O's
