Like most shopaholics I try really hard to stay away from MAC but it's so hard! Either way I made my way for two demos at the Montague location. I instantly fell in love with the fall colors and the manner in which the artists applied the two different styles in their own way was amazing. I even finally figure out how to use my MAC Cleanse Oil other than to take off makeup. Have you ever used it was apart of your foundation mix? Yea I know! So fierce I tell you. More than a shopping spree I always love getting down to MAC and learning how to use staple products in different ways.

Remembering Aaliyah 1979-2001

Twelve years ago today the world lost an entertainer, a sister, daughter, and friend to so many. Aaliyah enroute home after filming her last video "Rock the Boat" lost her life in a plane crash along with eight other beloved people whom worked with her. While many remember Aaliyah for her undeniable beauty we here at Miss Merli In NYC choose to remember her as a beacon of light. A young person who set a precedence for not allowing your integrity to be affected by this world for fame or fortune. Her legacy continues on because she allowed her beauty from within to penetrate peoples lives. She showed that constant hard work always prevails no matter the circumstances and through it all keep your loved ones close because when its all said and done they are all you have. Twelve years later not only does her family remember but an industry, a generation, the world remembers the beautiful soul that was Aaliyah. Miss You.

           

           

              

Who's That: Sam Branman of Ten Yards Clothing

I love discovering unique and fashionable clothing and accessories but more than anything I love sharing it with all of you. My motto is everyone has the right to be fabulous and its my duty to help do that. Although my blog caters a lot more to women, I did want to let my guys know, I got you! I love seeing men in colors and unique fashions, of course because I'm tired of the stripes and the color navy blue on them, but it shows a confidence that is beyond sexy. So now introducing to my beautiful people, Ten Yards Clothing by Sam Branman.

Ten Yards Clothing is the creation of Sam Branman. Born in mid-state NY to a family of artists, he began making things as a child, and eventually found himself getting a degree in photography. At the same time, he’d begun sewing costumes for himself to wear to anime conventions, to perform with indie-dance-feel-good-pop-cult The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, and to wear to the Cheryl parties in Brooklyn .

Upon graduating he moved to Brooklyn, started sewing even more, and started taking classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Taken over by a desire to make clothes that were functional in real life, and that his friends could wear, he started making mesh tops for his friends to wear to the music festival SXSW, in Austin, Texas. THUS, A LEGEND WAS BORN, and Sam began making mesh things for the masses. He is currently studying Patternmaking at FIT and collaborating with Aparna Dasgupta.

         All of the items produced are handmade in Sam’s apartment in Brooklyn.

Awareness of Self in Relation to Life

So there are 18 days left and 2,500 dollars is looking more and more impossible everyday. I really wish that everyone that I ask could just contribute something and then I would be that much closer to my goal and people dealing with this cancer would be that much closer to finding a cure. Come on everyone! If you look at my page know that this is a sincere attempt to help out a cause that I've seen too many suffer from. We've lost two of the greatest actors to it Patrick Swayze and Farrah Fawcett. They didn't have to die so young. Young children die, young adults, moms, dads, aunts and uncles die and for what? So we can continue to act like we are immortals and will never die or think that some how we are immune from a disease that continues to become a frequent diagnosis. I'm afraid to die and especially from a disease that if you're not strong or if you don't have the right health care or even support system your likely hood of surviving becomes less and less. People say I don't have money but yet go to parties, go shopping and then what? What do you have to show your great looks? Come on there has to be something bigger than some of the day to day mundane activities that we take part in or fuss over. Not to say we shouldn't live life to the fullest but what happen to the part where we help others live life to the fullest too? We were not put on this Earth just simply to live for ourselves and die, we are here to serve a greater purpose some more so than others but nevertheless many small purposes make for a person who left this Earth whom had a purpose. That's what I'm about and would like to know that the people I've come to call friends, family, and confidants are also doing the same. I understand some people are in tight spots right now if you are one I understand all too well but you can still help through other means. By spreading the word or by helping me raise funds for this disease. I will also attempt with other people have a spa day for the cause please be apart of that. To everyone who will read this and have a change of heart thank you, for those who've already helped or whom have offered me help I'm grateful for you. My intentions are not to make anyone feel guilty but to make people aware. May you be blessed all the days of your lives and be a blessing on to others while you're here.
