My Story: Recovering Shopaholic

Yes I am a recovering shopaholic. Not hard to believe right if you're a follower of my instagram or twitter ( MissMerli ) you'll see that I love going "window shopping" and taking lots of pictures, to document what I love and two to share with everyone where the best fashion and beauty finds are. Somehow in doing that I've been able to recover, it also helps that my shopping funds are shot so there!

As a lover of everything fashion and beauty, (oh and lets not forget my love of new technologies... yea that gets expensive quickly), I'm bombarded with emails and tweets about the best sales, can't miss exclusives which about four years ago created a perfect storm for me to become a serious shopaholic. At the same time I was dealing with a break up after being with a man for nine years, all that time I was in control or so I thought. Then there was a switch, shopping became my therapy, and the only thing that made me happy. Some say it was my way to cope, I believe it was chip embedded a decade before. Living in poverty but always having a true love for fashion but never indulging because I never could, it had finally caught up with me.

I've learned while I love shiny new things, there is nothing like financial freedom. I've finally found what I needed, which was to fulfill my dreams and to channel my energies into something constructive that provides me happiness, online journalism. Not owing anyone makes me happy, talking about the things I love and sharing with you makes me quite happy. What I realized was that shopping became therapy, in reality though I needed actual therapy and not the large amount of material things that I amassed.

Now it's a controlled hobby especially after paying almost sixteen thousand dollars worth of debt off, I refuse to be a slave to feelings, to my past, and to my love for fashion and beauty.  Don't get me wrong I relapse but having freedom keeps me in line, plus thrift shopping is so good on the wallet.

Filet Mignon sliders, Grilled Cheese, Yellow Fin Tuna Tartare, Meatballs covered in honey and pineapple glaze... should I keep going?

Last night I was able to enjoy time with beautiful friends and enjoy all of those appetizers and more as 48 Lounge debuted their Summer menu which is sure to keep you lounging till the wee hours of the morning. The atmosphere is posh and comfortable with tons of lounging room, beautiful cascading chandeliers, huge plasmas so that you can keep up with the Eastern Conference finals all while enjoying your friends company.

Located near the theatre district, transportation is not hard to find, or a cab if you've had one too many Violet Martinis. The posh paradise was the brainchild of Brian Packin a sweet, and handsome native of New Orleans who moved up to NYC after Katrina. He wanted to create an atmosphere that you can come relax and enjoy good times with friends, while sipping on classic drinks made sexy, and nibbling on bite sized comfort food to make your palette pleased.

Mama taught me to have my veggies didn't know it would be as good as this
