NYC Plus Size Clothing Swap Haul

Last week was a week of major hauling for Miss Merli In NYC.  There were tons of amazing finds at the NYC Plus Size Clothing Swap hosted by xoxonettaP & Kendra Porter of Honor You at Katra Lounge. The amount of people and clothes that were swapped was insane! There was so many goodies that when 8:30 came to end the event no one wanted to leave. I loved it! Remembering Aaliyah 1979-2001

Twelve years ago today the world lost an entertainer, a sister, daughter, and friend to so many. Aaliyah enroute home after filming her last video "Rock the Boat" lost her life in a plane crash along with eight other beloved people whom worked with her. While many remember Aaliyah for her undeniable beauty we here at Miss Merli In NYC choose to remember her as a beacon of light. A young person who set a precedence for not allowing your integrity to be affected by this world for fame or fortune. Her legacy continues on because she allowed her beauty from within to penetrate peoples lives. She showed that constant hard work always prevails no matter the circumstances and through it all keep your loved ones close because when its all said and done they are all you have. Twelve years later not only does her family remember but an industry, a generation, the world remembers the beautiful soul that was Aaliyah. Miss You.

           

           

              

Miss Merli Goes Behind the Scenes of Vivere Lookbook Shoot

Fashionistas, designers, and clothing lovers alike, how many times have you wondered what work has gone on to create some of the most amazing campaigns that we love? Of course you ask who is the stylist, is the designer involved in the process, and what about that beautiful model how does she work. Well Miss Merli In NYC got an exclusive invitation from Vivere to do just that, meet the designer, model, photographer, and stylist.  I also had the opportunity to also style the model and be a model who knew?! Beyonce's Call to Change "I Was Here"

More than a style icon Beyonce has brought attention to the many world issues that are currently taking place. In this video that was less about her and more about everyone else, one could not help but to shed tears to realize that so many of us can say "I Was Here". Whether it be through volunteering at a kitchen pantry, donating clothes to the less fortunate, or even just sponsoring a child to go to camp for a few weeks in the summer, we all can be apart of healing our world. Not many entertainers take that message on one that certainly pierces my mind is the late great Michael Jackson, but Beyonce certainly is making a stab at it and has done so with poise in this video. Stunning in her Marc Bouwer white sequin dress she dazzled and shined, her emotions beamed right through the screen and to my heart. One question that certainly one can translate through the song is, "How will you make your mark on this Earth?"

               
                   

                     

Event Announcement: Natural's Night Out

Ladies and gentleman (can't forget about all my natural men out there). There will be an event taking place September 6th that is sure to be a crowd pleaser for everyone involved. It's Chic and Kinky's 2nd anniversary bash bring together beauty junkies, fashion enthusiasts, beautiful men and women all under the same roof, its sure to be a kodak moment for sure. Some of the exhibitors in attendance include Curlz, Miss Jessies's and Jessicurl just to name a few. this will be taking place at Pranna NYC which is notorious for great drinks and food ( great appetizers here for sure) Leave a comment below and let me know if you'll be attending I've love to see you and take a quick flick.

Lessons Learned at Blogher12

I've learned a couple of lessons and I wanted to share that with those of you who will take the plunge and go to Blogher13.

• Stay at the hotel even if you're local unless you drive. Why? I live in Brooklyn and being at the conference in Midtown Manhattan from 9am- 1am proved to be brutal. I didn't get home till 3 am daily taking the train home with loads of product that I could've been shanked for. 
• Make a List and set reminders into your phone so even if you get distracted you'll remember what you wanted to do next.
• Carry a wheeled bag with you. Honey the amount of products aka swag that you will collect from each of these brands is nothing like I've ever seen. The first night was so bad I had to take a cab home yup that serious. 

• Keep the outside events to a minimum. Certainly that was my downfall because I was just trying to do too much. Did I have fun? Of course. Would I do it again? Maybe I'm glutton for punishment. Weigh your invites before you RSVP and make sure they are in line with what you're doing.
• Comfortable shoes and loose clothing. Do I need to explain? Comfortable cotton dresses, a cardigan, comfy footwear that was my way to go. No need to go and spend money to look super duper fly. 
• BUSINESS CARDS! Please have your business cards with you nothing like a dead cell phone and your inability not to capture vital information.
• Notepad, iPad, Some form of note-taking apparatus. Be ready to take tons of notes there is a lot of information to be absorbed trust me you want to remember it. 

• Have Fun Loosen up and be Authentic it goes a long way. Remember in a sea of 4000+ you want people to remember You.

                       

Mariah Carey & OPI Yes and Yes!

So I don't think it's news to anyone but I for one am very excited to reiterate that Mariah Carey and OPI are collaborating to create two collections first one set to be released in January of 2013. It is right on tap with when American Idol will be making its comeback to television with MC at the judging panel as well. My goodness, when it rains it pours for the mother of two. No more info is available at this time but as my sister in astrological sign (Aries) I know that the collection will surely be Fire! Bright and sultry like her personality I'm sure she will not disappoint. What names do you think they will be called? I'm thinking along the lines of some of her greatest hit titles, Butterfly ( a pearlized pinkish white color),  Rainbow ( chunky butterfly pieces in different colors) and may a little Honey ( a golden yellow color). Ooooh I can't wait!

Couldn't let this day go by without acknowledging the birthday of a legend that is no longer with us, Whitney Houston would've been forty nine years old today. To honor her I just wanted to share my all time favorite picture of her, along with a video of fellow castmates from the highly anticipated movie "Sparkle", singing two versions of Happy Birthday. Missing you like crazy Whitney and happy birthday may you continually rest in eternal peace.

Things that Make Me Go Oooh La La: July 23-29 2012

Welp what a week it has been! Literally I've been through a menagerie of things in my life personally and career wise, which has left me with a lot to think about. Whenever that happens though I go to the very thing that gets me in a host of trouble but brings me some clarity...SHOPPING! I did some damaged but I'll make sure to clean that up but in my walking around I came across some things that definitely made me say Oooh La La! Stay tuned for some new content to Miss Merli in NYC.
